STOCKED kitchen area REPORT, WEEK two

I continued on with my stocked kitchen area experiment to see if I might settle into more of a groove. The response was kinda indeed as well as kinda NO.

We had two preschool potlucks as well as a multi-family camping trip as well as I didn’t have to go to the grocery store one additional time. exactly how flipping incredible is that? super duper shmuper awesome!

So why kinda NO? Well, I requirement to be on top of things in my life includes my wish to plan meals. While I like having the components on hand for a traditional cheesecake should the responsibility arise, I want to understand if we’re going to utilize that whipping cream before it turns chunky.

Because chunky whipping cream is a genuine tragedy.

For the second phase of my experiment, I was particularly aggressive in utilizing up the components I wouldn’t normally buy (such as canned crab as well as blue cheese).

The regular report
My grocery expense was less than half of the obnoxious sum of last week ($127) however quite high since I stocked up on big maple syrup. The other extenuating circumstance was that Milo’s preschool just outlawed peanut butter so I grabbed almond butter, tahini butter, as well as sunflower seed butter so we might have some options.

Our menu:

Sunday: leftovers from last week’s experiment.

Monday: I made vegetable Tortilla Roll-ups to get with some cream cheese (Alec liked, the rest of us not so much) as well as marinated a steak utilizing one of the book’s marinades. Steak was good. The boys didn’t eat extremely much. I suggested that Alec select tomorrow’s dinner.

Tuesday: Success! We had Beef Tacos with side of Feta Peas; the boys wouldn’t eat their taco meat IN the taco however ate it right next to their tacos. Instead, they made tacos with avocado, cheese as well as strawberries (not on the sk* list)

Taco night

Wednesday: Fail! out to eat for me (Paisan, nice) however I confess that I unearthed some veggie burgers that have been frozen for more than 2 years (when we were last Costco members). The failure was not because of the cookbook per se, however without a plan, I floundered.

Thursday: Success! Crab Cakes were liked by all. Unfortunately, I only had one can of crab so I had to halve the recipe. Also, Holden failed to remember eating his as well as asked if it tasted like cake. everybody liked these deep-fried goodies. I’m going to buy more crab for next time.

Second success: Holden had a “Happy Goodbye” event at his preschool as well as we brought the staying peppermint chocolate bars to show the kids. No baking, no additional buying.

Friday: dinner potluck at the preschool. I brought the vegetable Tortilla Roll-ups (eww) as well as Oriental Coleslaw (yum).

Saturday: Hooray for the camping trip. I pre-made Mediterranean Pasta as well as Gazpacho. Both were great! By virtue of the bounty of a potluck camping trip, we found that the Pasta was tasty with sliced spicy Italian Sausage.

Sunday: All from my stocked Kitchen: Bleu Cheese as well as Pear poultry (Holden as well as Alec loved, Milo as well as I would barely touch it, however since I loathe bleu cheese, I was just happy to get it out of the house), Baked Potatoes (everyone loved!), Gazpacho (Alec as well as I loved, Holden ate with sufficient goldfish crackers as well as Milo… well, Milo ate his potato). What I did like about the poultry recipe is that I might bake all the components from frozen with four minutes of prep. as well as it was a thoroughly innovative recipe as compared to what I usually serve.

This coming week, I’ll plan ahead my meals based on my regular plans as well as the stocked kitchen area cookbook as well as (maybe, just maybe) not purchase a few of the components I don’t like (sorry cream cheese!).

For the fourth week, I will take Annie’s advice as well as shop for some non-can options to the stocked kitchen area staples (like jarred artichokes as well as olives) as well as begin working in my own preferred foods into the cycle.
